Hi there!
I’m Colynn O’Brien, lawyer, entrepreneur, mom, and lover of all things food and travel.
I’ve been practicing law since 2013. I spent years in litigation before starting Iluma Law Firm in 2021.
When I first started thinking about going out on my own, I wasn’t planning to start another law firm. I thought I’d get out of the law all together and start some sort of creative company.
But then I started talking to other female founders, and I realized how many of them were running their businesses and livelihoods without fully owning them. And they had no idea.
And I kept thinking about the ripple effect. Not just what happens when things go wrong, but what becomes possible when things are protected. When you fully own your brand and content, you can sell your business and walk away with what it’s worth. You can license your framework and create a whole new revenue stream. You can expand, pivot, or pass it down to the next generation. You have options, and you don’t have to worry about dealing with an infringement case against you or a forced rebrand.
That’s the ripple effect I want to create. I want more options for women. I want my clients to have more choices and more freedom to do whatever they want with the things they’ve worked so hard to build.
Ownership creates options, and I want the women I work with to have all of them.

Why “Iluma”?
My husband and I made it up. We wanted a word that felt like “to light up.”
Because I want to light up possibilities for the women we serve. Helping them see what they have, protect what matters, and open up options they didn’t know were available.
What I believe.
Women deserve choices. Ownership creates choices, and I want my clients to have all of them.
When I’m not working...
I’m usually spending time with my family. I have two little ones, and they’re always keeping things so fun and interesting.
I’m also a very novice writer and have a few projects up my sleeve. I love photography (hoping to make more time for it soon!), and I’m always finding magic in the seemingly everyday things.
